An urban room or city hub serves as the community’s “third place,” offering social, recreational, and cultural functions beyond those of shopping malls, a place to breathe, interact, learn, unwind, and connect. The design should create a positive impact on its immediate neighbourhood by being engaging and inviting, encouraging people to look, pause, stay, and celebrate. The project emphasizes “Sensing the City” by responding to the needs and aspirations of both people and place, aiming to design an inclusive, people-centred space that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 10 (reducing inequalities) and SDG 11 (creating sustainable cities and communities). The urban room should be a highly engaging, family-oriented, and empowering space that fosters a sense of belonging, open to users of all social backgrounds and ethnicities, acting as a neutral platform where activities are relevant to the community’s needs and desires. Architecturally, it should enhance the quality of the urban fabric, either blending harmoniously or driving positive change to make the city more vibrant while highlighting its identity and hidden attributes. Spaces, both internal and external, should be activity-driven and offer unique experiences for regulars, tourists, transient visitors, and NGOs, making them all caretakers of the place. The design must also comply with all relevant guidelines, safety standards, and building requirements.
